Current public release
guideXOS Server v0.2.1 is a maintenance release improving Developer Studio integration, including Start Menu availability and reliable bare-metal launching. The downloadable AMD64 build packages the current guideXOS Server environment, updated Navigator integration, current UEFI boot path, kernel, desktop, applications, and system services as a bootable ISO. It is a separate native product direction from the existing C#/AOT guideXOS desktop operating system.
What is included
The released system includes the following user-facing and platform work, with hosted/development and bare-metal parity called out in the Server wiki where it differs:
- Graphical desktop environment
- Window management, taskbar, Start Menu, and desktop
- File Explorer and practical file-management operations
- Trash integration, with conservative non-empty-folder behavior
- Built-in applications and utilities
- Developer Studio with a Start Menu entry and normal OS/bare-metal launch path
- guideXOS Navigator
- App Model and packaged-application work
- Storage and filesystem support used by the released system
- Networking functionality present in the released build
- Bootable ISO for virtual-machine testing
- amd64 UEFI boot path for compatible physical-hardware testing
- Continued architecture-portability development in the source tree

Release maturity
v0.2.1 is an early independent-operating-system release. It is not production-ready and is not presented as a replacement for Windows, Linux, or another established operating system. Try it first in a virtual machine or on spare, non-critical hardware, and preserve important data before bare-metal testing.
Hardware and boot notes
- The downloadable release is specifically amd64 and uses the documented UEFI boot path.
- Hardware compatibility varies; a public amd64 ISO does not imply universal physical-machine support.
- Virtual-machine testing is the recommended first step.
- Preserve important data before bare-metal testing on spare hardware.
- The Media Creator is not yet available; write or attach media using your own trusted workflow.
Known limitations
- Hardware compatibility varies; there is no guarantee of support for every physical machine.
- Hosted and bare-metal paths do not have identical behavior across every feature.
- The Media Creator is temporarily unavailable.
- Other CPU architectures remain development or roadmap targets; they are not public downloads in this release.
- Features and applications may still have incomplete edge cases.
- Non-empty directory Delete/Move to Trash is deliberately refused in the current release.
